Dear Fellow Football Fanatics:
First and foremost, please accept my sincere appreciation to all of you who have contributed to make our football activity a success over the past three years.
This year, as in previous years, friends from all corners of the world have banded together to represent their own ethnic community, and with great pride and joy, they have fought to the last man in an attempt to attain supremacy of “the universal sport”.
Amongst all the teams that have participated in the past two years, one name stands above all: ANGOLA.
These gentlemen have demonstrated superior skill, unqualified exemplary conduct and sportsmanship that their name deserves special mention.
Prior to the advent of their team in summer 2004, I do recall some of these gentlemen playing in Club Portugal, headed by Bill Medeiros, himself a founding member of our activities. It would not be an exaggeration to state that the Angolan athletes in his roster, made Club Portugal the powerhouse that it turned out to be in Summer 2003.
Although ANGOLA was only credited with a second-place last summer, I must humbly acknowledge that in reality they truly deserved first place, given the unfortunate turnout of events.
This year, our ANGOLA friends have taken the lead and contributed even more to our activities by setting up their own championship, in which a team of my Hispanic compatriots, COSTA RICA, was invited to participate. The results, in which over six teams participated were as follows:
In addition to the above, there have been other one day tournaments in which the Angolans have also excelled:
June’s 3-team, 1 day championship had the following results:
And finally, the two-weekend championship composed of 4 teams resulted as follows:
As we can see from the above, in all the results, one name stands out: ANGOLA.
Gentlemen, my hats off to all of you. It takes team spirit, attitude, discipline, and above all, talent and experience to perform as you have all performed.
I look forward to continue working with you all in our athletic activities.
