Rumble in Brampton!
The ALCA 4th Annual Tournament

First and foremost, congratulations to our friends from
Angola for having won the Alliance of Cameroonians (ALCA)
2006 championship held at Chris Gibson’s park in Brampton
this past Saturday.
We also want to take this opportunity to express our
appreciation to the ALCA organizers for having invited us to
participate in this memorable activity.
Last but not least, we want to express our appreciation to the
six participating teams for their excellent sportsmanship. As
it’s common knowledge, engaging in the universal sport of
football, a full-contact, physical sport, there are certain
risks attendant to this activity, and the safety of the players
is a major concern. It is with great pride that we announce
there were no major injuries sustained by our players. For this,
we can only exalt the highly ethical conduct of the individual
athlete and their sportsmanship toward winning the game in a
clean and honorable fashion.
Now, it is with great pride that I announce that Barcelona,
the defending champions of ALCA 2003, wound up as runner-up
Champions in the ALCA 2006 tournament this past Saturday.
Indeed, it was a spectacular performance from the kick-off
match vs. The Red Devils, the Cameroonian Brampton team
hosting this activity.
Despite the shortage of substitutions by Barcelona, we managed
to hold our own by maintaining a zero-zero tie for the first
half of the match. However, inspired by their relentless
captain, Hayden Miyamoto, a Jap-British Canadian youth, and a
soccer prodigy, the game was turned around when a pass from the
corner area landed on the feet of Founding Barcelona member,
Rhory Morgan. He skillfully deflected the ball past the
Cameroonian goalie, and thus we savored our first victory
of the day.
Subsequently, after a 30-minute rest, our somewhat exhausted
squad operating with barely 3 subs and an injured defender,
faced the athletic Angolans, a team composed of talented youth,
mostly under the age of twenty-five, equipped with nine
substitutions.
Our warriors battled to the best of their ability, but they suffered
their first decisive loss with a 3-1 for Angola.
However, payback was on the way later on that same evening.
Subsequent matches saw the defeat of Egypt by the Angolans with a 3-0
victory for the Angolans.
Then, realizing the urgent need for re-enforcements, a key Barcelona
asset that operates behind the scenes, (whose name shall remain
anonymous!) managed to pull off an unexpected feat by getting to the
field four key players: Michael, Christian, Alex, three Costa Rican
soccer super-stars, and Mario Morales, a teenage kid suddenly turned
“daddy”, (congratulations Mario).
With the above fresh re-enforcements, Barcelona demonstrated the
powerhouse it has always been by giving the Toronto Lions (another
Cameroonian team) a 4-0 pounding.
The above victory saw the re-encounter of the two top teams for
the #1 spot: ANGOLA vs BARCELONA.
The match for the top spot began with a flub by our defense in
the 12 minute which resulted in a 1-0 lead for Angola. Then,
inspired by their rowdy supporters on the sidelines, the
Angolans managed a second goal vs. the Barcelonians before even
the end of the second half.
However, as a result of new strategy engineered by masterplayer
and coach,Patrick, an Asian gentleman who played professionally
in his home country of China, the game was turned around on the
second half with a long-distance shot by Christian, central mid-
fielder.
Subsequently, pulling energies from unexpected places, Daniel
Torres, also known formerly as the Salsa Master, who performed
blind-folded before a crowd of thousands of spectators and went
to win the #1 spot in a salsa competition, he scored the
equalizer for Barcelona.
This took us to the end of the match.
Unfortunately, exhausted by literally a full day work out,
Barcelona suffered a 2-0 loss on penalty shots.
All in all, I am proud to say I founded Barcelona, and I am
very proud of the assistants who help run the present squad,
namely, Hayden and Patrick. Congratulations to all the players
who participated.
